Leeds Makkah Masjid is one of the main masajid in Leeds (UK), serving
the Muslim communities of Headingley, Hyde Park, Universities and other
surrounding areas.
Voted the UK's Model Mosque in a nation-wide competition, Makkah Mosque is leading the way in holding multi-faith and multi-cultural events and encouraging inter-community relations.
Leeds Makkah Masjid is open to visitors throughout the year. The majority of these visitors are from faith, inter-faith, professional and educational institutions, including schools and colleges, wishing to further their understanding of Muslims’ place of worship.
The centre piece of the mosque is, without doubt, the spectacular calligraphy on the inside of the Mosque’s dome, which was produced by the renowned Gold-medalist Pakistani calligrapher, Naveed Bhatti. The calligraphy has been produced in a combination of breathtaking colours, the result of which is truly magnificent, inspiring and spiritually uplifting. Multiple coloured leaf patterns fill the inside of the dome to create a sense of a heavenly garden overlooking the congregation in prayer and meditation.
A visit consists of an observation of prayer, a tour of the mosque and a Q&A or discussion session. Light refreshments and worksheets are also provided for younger visitors.
