Yorkshire champion chef flying the flag for Gods Own County

17th Nov 2011
Yorkshire through-and-through chef, Tim Bilton has received the ultimate accolade of being named Deliciouslyorkshire Champion 2011-12 (and “all round good guy”!) at the glittering awards ceremony for his commitment and dedication to the region’s food.

Tim, who is Chef Proprietor at the award-winning Butchers Arms, in Hepworth, was described by the organisers as a “real champion of local produce” as he accepted the award, bestowed only on the best chefs and producers in Yorkshire. He will now become the official ambassador for Deliciouslyorkshire.

“Tim is an all round good guy,” said Gemma Richardson, Deliciouslyorkshire’s general manager. “He stood out for us because of his dedication to the region and his ongoing promotion of Yorkshire food. He’s always on hand for our ‘Meet the Supplier’ events and cooking demos. In fact, if there’s a way to plug Yorkshire food, then Tim will do it!”

The news comes on the back of four glittering years as head chef at the village pub-turned destination eatery, where more than 75 per cent of ingredients are sourced from Yorkshire producers and farmers.

For two years in a row, Tim’s passion for fantastic British food has seen him represent the North East on the BBC TV series Great British Menu, and a string of other awards have followed including the ‘Pub Restaurant Chef Award’ at the Craft Guild of Chefs Awards in June, ‘Best Gastropub’ at the Great British Pub Awards, Yorkshire Life magazine’s ‘Dining Pub of the Year’ and The Publican’s ‘Food Pub of the Year’ and ‘Newcomer of the Year’.

“I’m completely overwhelmed and humbled to have been awarded the prestigious Yorkshire Champion title. To be recognised by an esteemed organisation like Deliciouslyorkshire really is an honour.” Said Tim, who trained under the legendary Chef, Raymon Blanc “Yorkshire is packed with so many artisan producers that have a real passion and enthusiasm, as a Chef it’s my duty to take these products and make them shine on a menu, it’s not hard, as 5* star Yorkshire produce is allways a winner in my eyes.”

Tim continued “As Yorkshire’s Champion I’m determined to keep banging the drum for Yorkshire’s artisan producers. I’m sure you’ll agree with me, when I say there’s no place like Yorkshire, and I’m going to shout that message from the rooftops.”

More than 400 people attended the Deliciouslyorkshire awards at Rudding Park, in Harrogate, which celebrated the exceptional achievements of local businesses with a total of 20 awards presented by BBC Radio 2’s resident foodie Nigel Barden.
