May brings the final two orchestral concerts of the Leeds International Concert Season 2011/12 with two world class performances from the Berlin Symphony Orchestra and Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.

The programme also includes Schumann Piano Concerto performed by twenty year old pianist Kit Armstrong. At the age of seven, Kit became the youngest scholarship student in the history of Chapman University of California to attend the university part-time while completing high school. At the age of only eight he performed his first concerto debut. Tickets are selling fast for this concert so make sure you book early!
Later in the month, on Saturday 19 May, is the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, performing with Leeds’ top two choirs - Leeds Festival Chorus&Leeds Philharmonic Chorus joined by Rebecca Evans (soprano), Louise Winter (mezzo soprano), Paul Charles Clarke (tenor) and Neal Davies (bass/baritone), under the baton of Simon Wright. The evening of music features Mendelssohn Die erste Walpurgisnacht which is the story of ‘The First Walpurgis Night’, a traditional Spring festival in parts of Europe, celebrated with the lighting of bonfires. The programme also includes Beethoven Symphony No 9 (Choral) which uses the largest ensemble Beethoven ever scored for!
