Leeds Town Hall launches 2012 What’s On guide
4th Jan 2012
The What’s On at Leeds Town Hall brochure for January – August 2012 has been released and tickets are now on sale.
Sponsored by the Yorkshire Evening Post, the programme includes a great variety of entertainment for all, including comedy, concerts, films and educational events alongside the world-class International Orchestral Season.
Leeds International Orchestral Season continues from January with highlights including a performance of Shostakovich’s Fifth Symphony by the St Petersburg Philharmonic, 75 years after it gave the premiere of this iconic work (31 March) and visits by the Russian State Symphony Orchestra (11 Feb) and Berlin Symphony Orchestra (12 May).
Outside of the Orchestral Season Leeds Town Hall welcomes two slightly more zany orchestras! Having recently appeared at The Proms, the Spaghetti Western Orchestra will play over 100 instruments, from coat hangers to rubber gloves, recreating the soundtracks to Clint Eastwood movies (18 Feb). Plus, following their sell out gig last summer, the Town Hall is delighted to welcome back the fantastic Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain on their world tour (5&6 June).
This Spring Leeds Town Hall celebrates Irish History Month with The Waterboys performing their most well-loved songs plus highlights from their recent project An Appointment with Mr Yeats (31 March) and Irish singer/songwriter Christy Moore will appear with Declan Sinnott (1 April).
Comedy treats include star of Mock the Week and Have I Got News for You, Chris Addison with his new tour The Time is Now, Again (19 Feb) plus Welsh wonder Rhod Gilbert brings his new show, The Man with the Flaming Battenburg Tattoo (11&12 April).
Finally, you can now see your all-time favourite films as you’ve never seen them before on the giant Town Hall cinema screen. Leeds Film Quarter features Hitchcock’s North by Northwest, The Red Shoes starring Moira Shearer and the Coen Brothers’ hilarious comedy The Big Lebowski (23&24 Feb).
