Leeds in the market for food lovers festival
1st Mar 2011
Food lovers will have a unique chance to sample the delights of the Yorkshire region at this year’s Leeds Loves Food festival, which will take place from 1st July.
In addition to the annual programme of activities, Marketing Leeds has announced that a Yorkshire food and drink market will be held in Millennium Square, bringing in to the city, for the first time, stallholders from all over the UK.
The announcement marks the start of preparations for the city’s sixth food festival and follows on from the successful ‘Christkindelmarkt’, which brings to Millennium Square each year, specialist German delicacies and an authentic bier-keller.
Alongside the market, the festival brings together a jam packed calendar of events, including a theatre kitchen with cookery demonstrations in Millennium Square, masterclasses with top chefs, kids pizza making and giant picnics. All this will be accompanied by a series of special offers and promotions by Leeds restaurants and hotels so that everyone in the city has something to get their teeth into!
Deborah Green, Chief Executive of Marketing Leeds said: “Last year’s Leeds Loves Food was a mouth watering success, resulting in a 5% increase in footfall to the city centre during the festival period. Leeds has become a foodies hotspot with many award-winning restaurants but it caters, too, for all tastes and budgets. Leeds Loves Food showcases our fabulous restaurants and culinary expertise to a national and international audience, ensuring that the city is top of the table when it comes to the national food scene.
“I am delighted by this year’s addition of the Yorkshire food and drink show. This will greatly enhance the experience for visitors and enable us to work with an even wider range of businesses.”
Cath Follin, City Centre Manager said: “Leeds is constantly striving to be the best at all it does and the food scene is a vibrant one. The city has much to be proud of and Leeds Loves Food is our annual festival, which will share the city’s passion for culinary excellence with residents and visitors.”
