Jane Tomlinson’s Leeds 10K returns for 2010
The hugely popular event was set by the late Jane Tomlinson CBE and her family in 2007 to stand as her fundraising legacy.
Mike Tomlinson said: “The success of the events has been phenomenal. Since we launched, Leeds has been a sell-out event, growing from 7,000 entrants in year one to 11,000 this year.
“When Jane and I set up the first Run For All event four years ago her own health was failing. Jane had raised £1.85 million through her own challenges, but we didn’t want her death to be the end of the fundraising and we wanted to create a vehicle to continue her fundraising.
“Most important of all in this is the success of Jane’s legacy and the fact we are raising huge sums for not only our partner charities but the many other good causes our runner’s support.”
The 2009 event raised a fantastic £300,000
for the Jane Tomlinson Appeal and the Leeds 10K partner charities: Bluebell
Wood Children’s Hospice, Macmillan, Martin House Children’s Hospice,
the children’s medical charity Sparks and Yorkshire Cancer Centre
In addition, the Jane Tomlinson Appeal offered an additional £100,000 to be shared by the partner charities for nominated projects.
Runner’s World named Jane Tomlinson’s Leeds 10K “Best New Event” in the 2007/2008 awards and earlier this year the event was named in The Sunday Telegraph as among the Top 10 10Ks in the country.
All the Run For All 10K events are open
to people of all abilities – whether they wish to walk, jog, run or
wheel their way around the city centre courses.
The 2010 Leeds 10K was launched earlier this year by British rower and quadruple Olympic gold medallist Sir Matthew Pinsent CBE.
Sir Matthew Pinsent, vice president of children’s medical charity Sparks said:
“I’m delighted to support the Leeds 10K. Jane Tomlinson, a Sparks vice-president herself, was a truly inspirational figure who became our biggest-ever individual fundraiser.”
The success of the not-for-profit Run For All event has led to the set up of the Jane Tomlinson’s York 10K, Hull 10K and Pennine Lancashire 10K.
The Jane Tomlinson’s Leeds 10K team would like to thank sponsors Leeds City Council, Leeds Metropolitan University, Logistik, Mail Box Express, Gatorade and Asics for their ongoing support.
