Head to Granary Wharf Big Picnic
Dust off the hampers as Granary Wharf is set to play host to the largest urban picnic event in Leeds as people are invited to head down to the stunning waterside development on Saturday July 3 as part of the annual Leeds Loves Food Festival.
Sandwiched between the River Aire and the Leeds Liverpool canal the development, which has recently undergone a £90 million transformation at the hands of developers, ISIS Waterside Regeneration, will offer visitors a stunning location for an urban summer picnic.
As well as bringing a home-made picnic, visitors can feast alfresco on food prepared by a range of suppliers who will be offering their own special picnics to purchase from stalls across the public realm. Leeds’s newest hotel, City Inn, which sits alongside the Leeds/Liverpool canal, will offer a selection of special seasonal dishes prepared in its award-wining City Café restaurant which uses the very best locally sourced produce. Granary Wharf’s newest addition, The Hop, a real ale and live music venue, will also be providing a variety of takeaway picnics and the development’s longest standing eatery, Wasabi Tepen-yaki, will offer the best in Japanese fine dining.
A host of local independent food suppliers including Calderdale Cheese, Kala King Chocolate, Patisserie Moorish and sushi specialist’s Sesame, will also be on hand to offer a scrumptious array of picnic delights to enjoy at the tastiest location in the city this summer.
Ideal for families, the development offers a range of areas to enjoy a picnic including grassy banks along the canal, astro turf ‘picnic spots’ as well as the plenty of seats and picnic tables laid out on the newly refurbished piazza, perfect for enjoying the gorgeous waterside views.
The Granary Wharf Big Picnic will see also the launch of the ‘Little Picnics’ a bespoke picnic bag available throughout the summer at seven of the best independent food suppliers from across Granary Wharf and Holbeck Urban Village. Each venue will be offering its own personalised lunch available in a ‘Little Picnic’ bag so that workers and people visiting the area can make the most of the summer at a range of great picnic spots south of the city centre. The ‘Little Picnic’ bags are available from The Hop at Granary Wharf as well as Holbeck Urban Village favourites Engine House Café, Out of the Woods, David Street Café, Pickled Pepper, Cross Keyes and the Midnight Bell. Prices range between venues.
The Granary Wharf Big Picnic is just one of a host of events taking place across the city for the second annual Leeds Loves Food Festival which sees an exciting and jam packed calendar of activity over the festival weekend between 1 and 4 July.
