Christmas shopping with a charitable twist
9th Nov 2011
As the Leeds Lights Switch On takes place this week, thoughts are turning to the Christmas shopping list.
This year, Leeds fashion powerhouse Harvey Nichols Leeds is urging festive shoppers to dig deep and treat loved ones to art that makes a difference with the latest collection from acclaimed painter Dudley Edwards.
Harvey Nichols is selling limited edition prints of Dudley Edwards’ latest collection of prints for Friends of Alfie Martin, a local charity working closely with the Leeds General Infirmary to provide intensive care facilities and transportation for critically ill babies across the Yorkshire region. The prints are based on dancers from Northern Ballet with a percentage of each sale going directly to the charity.
Edwards, who made his name in the 1960s on the swinging London art scene, said: “It is so important to remember charities at Christmas and I hope festive shoppers will help Friends of Alfie Martin towards buying a number of lifesaving, state of the art baby monitors in the New Year by considering these prints as gifts for Christmas.”
Fiona Martin, founder of the charity said: “We are very grateful to Dudley for his support of the charity. I do hope shoppers in Leeds will visit Harvey Nichols to take a look at the work. The pieces are very beautiful and would make a wonderful present for anyone with an interest in ballet or the arts.”
The work will be displayed in Harvey Nichols Fourth Floor Restaurant and bar until the end of November. Anyone wishing to make a purchase after this date can contact the artist directly on info@amazedltd.com.
