The Workshop Theatre
The Workshop Theatre is home to the academic study of Theatre Studies in the School of English at the University of Leeds.
Its M.A. in Theatre Studies is the longest established postgraduate programme of its kind in Great Britain, and has traditionally approached the study of drama and theatre in a practical and multi-cultural context. Its undergraduate Single Honours in English and Theatre Studies degree programme combines the disciplines of practical exploration and a theoretical approach to the stage with the study of English literature and language.
The Workshop Theatre also supervises research students to doctoral level and opportunities are provided for all the different student communities to work for and with each other in a range of theatre-making activities.
Most of this work relates to academic programmes within the School, but it also serves to contribute to the cultural life of the University as a whole, and sometimes to extend outside to work within the broader community and beyond.
Recent Workshop Theatre productions have toured to Italy, Spain and China and other student activities have resulted in performances given at the Edinburgh and other drama festivals. The WT is an active member of SCUDD (The Standing Conference of University Drama Departments)
