Bang in the city centre's main shopping area, the Darbar's almost hidden entrance is a modest affair, especially when you see the majestic first floor restaurant which lies above. With a pedigree to rival many, this 25-year old restaurant contains a wealth of traditionally designed furnishings including an authentic Haveli door, Rosewood chairs from Pakistan and an abundance of colourful yet tasteful tapestries and mosaics. Adding to the traditional Eastern ambience and creating a feel of Imperial India, the walls display reproductions of designs taken straight from the Taj Mahal.
Serving an extensive range of traditional Indian and Pakistani fare, the Darbar is a quality curry restaurant far, far away from the late-night one-stop-beer-and-curry haunts of the University part of town. A wide choice of dishes, high quality fresh ingredients, fresh fruit and very close attention to detail all add to the Darbar's own standout take on a truly authentic Eastern dining experience.
