Yorkshire's creatives invited to design ideal world
16th Dec 2011
Award winning Leeds based home technology specialists, Finite Solutions are this week providing creatives across the region with the opportunity to make their mark within ‘Britain’s Coolest Home’, as they launch a new design initiative.
Launched in 2009, the million pound Finite showhouse based in Yeadon, was created to illustrate the endless ways cutting edge technology can be seamlessly integrated into our everyday lives, and to highlight what‘s possible with a bit of imagination. A converted Victorian property in Yeadon, now bursting at the seams with James Bond style gadgets, nowhere else in the UK houses as much integrated home technology under one roof.
Market leaders in the design and installation of luxury bespoke home entertainment systems, Finite Solutions showhouse is constantly updated to boast the very best in home entertainment technology and boasts features such a speakers disguised as artwork, mirrors that turn into TVs, and a 7ft LCD screen in the basement cinema room, all controlled by touch screen control panels around the house.
This week the team is inviting designers from across the region to get involved with their ‘Ideal World Showcase’, which will have pride of place within the showhouse as part of a new ‘Innovation Pod’. Set to inspire clients old and new with fresh creative concepts this space is intended to help imaginations run wild, and generate new ideas around what a smart home really is. The first phase of this begins with a ‘Concept Cinema’ competition.
MD, Simon Mathieson said: “The thinking behind the ‘Ideal World Showcase’ is that all our ideal worlds are different. What’s important to me might not be important to you and vice versa but what we want to do is excite people and get them dreaming of what’s possible. This could be from an entertainment perspective, it could be from a sustainability perspective or it could just be from an ease of use perspective, what we want to know is ‘what is your ideal world’ when it comes to your home.”
He added: “It’s important to us to constantly push boundaries and develop new ideas and concepts that really challenge what’s possible with technology. We’ve won many awards for designing integrated future ready homes but we always want to take things to the next level.”
“Our design team is currently working on a range of new cinema room concepts to act as inspiration for clients but we’re keen to also gain input from others across the region in terms of what they’d like to see from home technology. We appreciate that the digital generation is used to having everything at their fingertips and also that we have a wealth of creative talent as a region, so we’re keen to see how they view the future of home technology”.
“We encourage the designs to be creative, and not restricted by budget restraints or installation procedures - let us worry about all that later, what we’re looking for are some really interesting ideas and creative portrayal of individual imagination.”
Things recommended for applicants to consider in their concepts are: visual creativity; use of the latest technologies; use of lighting and integration of interiors; ergonomics of design.
