Whirl into the New Year at Leeds Town Hall
19th Dec 2011
Celebrate New Year’s Day in style at the first concert of the year, Viennese Whirl, with the Orchestra of Opera North on Sunday 1 January 2012 at Leeds Town Hall. A wonderful afternoon of waltzes, polkas and excerpts from well-loved operas by the Viennese masters.
Conducting this powerful orchestra is Jacek Kaspszyk, Principal Conductor of Capital Radio's Wren Orchestra and Artistic Director of the NFM Wroclaw Philharmonic. Adding a touch of sparkle to the afternoon is stunning soprano Stephanie Corley who took the lead role in Opera North’s The Merry Widow in December 2010, with Richard Morrison of The Times awarding the performance four stars. Jacek and Stephanie are joined on stage by Opera North’s Dougie Scarfe as compère.
The programme for the afternoon includes Josef Strauss Die Libelle, Lumbye Champagner Galopp and various works from Johann Strauss II, including Pizzicato Polka and the ever-popular Blue Danube Waltz.
This seasonal favourite is the perfect way to start the New Year and early booking is advised. Tickets are priced from £9.50 - £27.50 and concessions are available, including 50% off if you are under 18, a student or unwaged. To book, call the Box Office on 0113 224 3801 or visit leedsconcertseason.com. Please note the concert starts at 3pm.
