Commuters travelling through Leeds Train Station were today offered the chance to take part in free money advice sessions.
The Money Advice Service was in the city as part of the Leeds Loves Shopping festival and was on hand to provide advice to commuters about how to make the most of their money.
Drop in booths were set up in the station concourse and staff offered advice about reducing energy bills, insurance costs and savings accounts. Further sessions will take place at Leeds Kirkgate Markets on Saturday 15th October.
Cath Follin, City Centre Manager and Head of Markets for Leeds City Council, organisers of the festival along with Marketing Leeds, said: “Spending habits have no doubt been impacted by the global financial crisis but, of course, we all continue to require various types of produce. The Money Advice service provides advice about budgeting and I am delighted that they are taking part in the Leeds Loves Shopping festival to demonstrate that through spending wisely your money will go a lot further.”
Gerard Lemos, Chairman of the Money Advice Service said: “The Money Advice Service aims to revolutionise the way people in the UK manage their money. We want everyone to reconsider their own relationship with money. We believe that encouraging people to feel comfortable talking about money is a key step in this process. Research tells us that people see the lifestyle benefits of managing their money.”
The Money Advice Service is a free service set up to help consumers manage their money better. Staff provide clear, independent money advice to help people make informed choices. The service is funded by a levy on the financial services industry. Details can be found at www.moneysavingservice.org.uk.
Commuters were able to make future appointments to take advantage of their detailed, free service.
