Leeds waterfront watering hole is Britain's favourite
29th May 2012
Leeds best kept secret, Stew and Oyster Calls Landing, is celebrating after beating off national competition, to be crowned Britain's Favourite Waterside Watering Hole.
Beating off the likes of Fistral Beach Bar in Cornwall, independently owned riverside pub Stew&Oyster Calls Landing won over a quarter of the votes to take the title. Situated on the banks of The River Aire the pub is one of the only spots in city to enjoy an alfresco drink, and take in the great views across the south of the city.
The competition run by premium Nordic vodka brand Finlandia, saw Stew & Oyster Calls Landing take the title thanks to votes from drinkers across the country, who agreed it’s a great place for the British public to spend time relaxing indoors or out.
Stew & Oyster Manager Shardy Salameh said: “It’s great to win this and take the title for Leeds, beating off other venues across the country. We’re really lucky with our waterside location, and it’s something customers always comment on – that it’s a really nice place to unwind”.
He added: “We also have a passion for all things local, using some great suppliers, so alongside serving international brands like Finlandia, we also stock many beers from local breweries, and this all adds to the experience.”
One customer said: “Calls Landing is a great place to spend time relaxing with friends, overlooking the scenic river. We already recommend this place to others but don’t like to shout too loud, as we enjoy it still being a bit of a hidden gem. It has an effortless way of creating a great atmosphere and place to chill out in a busy city.”
Calls Landing Stew & Oyster Bar, located at 36 – 38 The Calls, is Leeds’ only oyster bar.
