Leeds Loves Shopping takes off in style

27th Sep 2011
Cabin Crew from three leading airlines will be joined by Leeds Fashion Show models on a runway with a difference at Leeds Bradford International Airport next week as plans for the UK’s only retail festival, Leeds Loves Shopping, are unveiled.

Jet2.com, Ryanair and BMI Regional will be taking to the runway with a display of their vintage cabin crew wear as well as unveiling new fashion creations that represent their brands. Up and coming fashion designer, Mandy Hudson, 24 from Wortley and a recent graduate of Leeds College of Art, created the new pieces to reflect the spirit of the airlines’ brands and the concept of flying.

The indoor runway will be created by organisers of the Leeds Loves Shopping festival, Marketing Leeds and Leeds City Council’s City Centre Management. The festival takes place in the city centre from 13-23 October and includes an action packed Big Shopping Night Out on Thursday 13th October. Leeds Loves Shopping is part of a suite of city festivals and celebrates the vibrancy of the Leeds retail sector. It follows on from Leeds Loves Food, which took place in July and attracted over 40,000 visitors to Millennium’s Square alone.

Tony Hallwood of LBA says: “We are delighted to be supporting Leeds Loves Shopping. It is one of the highlights of the Leeds event calendar and I’m looking forward to seeing the dresses inspired by our airlines, it will be interesting to see how they are represented!”

Deborah Green, Chief Executive of Marketing Leeds, says: “Leeds has a vibrant retail sector and one that is experiencing a unique period of development. The city is also at the heart of the creative industry with some incredible young designers graduating from the city’s colleges. So what a wonderful way to announce the exciting calendar of events for Leeds Loves Shopping. The fashion runway gives us an opportunity to support talented individuals as well as the major airlines that invest so much in the city.

“Leeds Loves Shopping is a superb platform to highlight Leeds’ strengths in retail both nationally and internationally so I am delighted to be working with LBA, Ryanair, Jet2 and BMI Regional.”

Cath Follin, City Centre Manager and Head of Markets for Leeds City Council, says: “Leeds is constantly striving to be the best at all it does and has a long history of success in the retail sector, attracting many high street stores yet providing great spaces for independent boutiques too. Individual retailers in the city have put together an exciting calendar of events, offers and promotions throughout the Leeds Loves Shopping festival and will demonstrate that Leeds is a premier retail destination.”
