Leeds garage puts women in the driving seat
23rd Sep 2011
On September 27th Motor Marque garage in West Park, Leeds, is holding another of its pioneering and popular courses which aim to educate female drivers on basic car maintenance, ensuring their safety on the roads and helping them to become more confident in dealing with mechanics when things go wrong in the winter months.
Mark Frankland, owner of Motor Marque, devised the 'Motor Smart Women' course after many of his female customers said that they sometimes felt out of their depth in a male dominated motor industry and would jump at the opportunity to learn more about basic mechanics and car maintenance.
This free course will be held from 6.30pm until 8.30pm and promises to be a fun packed and hands on event. The course consists of teaching participants about road safety, what to do if your car breaks down and tips on how to avoid being ripped off in a garage. As well advice and demonstrations those who really want to get stuck in can get the chance to tinker with engines, put cars up ramps and see what life in overalls is really like.
Mark said “At Motor Marque we always treat our customers equally and give them honest and dependable advice, however we are aware that sometimes women feel garages use complicated jargon to make them feel inferior and take advantage of them. I feel passionately about making women feel like fully competent and self-sufficient motorists. Through this course we aim to break stereotypes by educating women to have a basic understanding of car maintenance, giving them independence to handle simple tasks themselves and confidence in ensuring they get the best deal.”
