Leeds Corn Exchange offers helping hand for Mother’s Day
23rd Feb 2012
In the run up to Mother’s Day on Sunday 18th March, the many and varied traders housed in Leeds’s oldest shopping centre, the historic Corn Exchange, have come up with a range of thoughtful and original solutions for anyone that wants to show their mum that she is one in a million.
Home to 23 independent boutiques and artisan food outlets, Leeds Corn Exchange offers an alternative shopping experience to the homogeneity of the high street thanks to the eclectic mix of independent traders offering something for every mum on all budgets, from hand-made jewellery to designer scarves, pampering bath bombs to chocolate shoes.
Dads can take kids along to Teddy&Co. on 10th and 11th March for a free card-making session where the experienced staff at this family-run business, which is the main store in the region authorised to carry the iconic Steiff, Gund and Dean’s teddy bears, will lend a helping hand to aspiring artists and ensure that every child makes their mark on a special card to take home to mum.
To encourage hard-working mums to put their feet up and pamper themselves with a long, hot soak in the tub, Soap Star Gifts’s sweet-smelling cupcake bath bomb (£8.95) by Miss Patisserie is divine. Mummy & Little Me has given new dads a helping hand with a ‘Congratulations Mummy’ kit (£36.99) for all new mums which includes miracle oil, body smoother and bath soak from the all natural Booboo range as well as a tasty edible option with Choco Rico’s exquisite high heel shoes made from Belgian chocolate (£12.99).
For fashion-forward mums that love to accessorise at home and on the hoof, Leeds Corn Exchange also houses Yellow Sunrise, a crafts and home furnishing shop which offers heart-shaped soap stones (from £2.99) engraved for ‘Mother’ and ‘Nan’. Little Pink Wardrobe has in store beautiful cotton and lace-mix scarves in a variety of colours (£18). For a special treat, indulge in a creation from award-winning specialist milliner and accessory maker, Lou Lou Puchalka, whose range of 100% silk pashminas (£49.99), or flower corsages which double as hairclips (£35), will last a lifetime. Outrage Jewellers has a large selection of individually made, unique rings and pendants from £20 in a range of gems, from moonstone to amethyst, and Moo Designs stock locally-made leather bags (£98), with purses (£38) that can be personalised with brushed metaldesigns hand wrought into either mum’s or children’s initials *.
More than a shopping destination, Leeds Corn Exchange is a stunning setting in which to treat mums on Mothering Sunday; visitors can sit back and enjoy a cup of award-winning coffee or Yummy Yorkshire ice cream at gourmet hotdog café, Primo’s, or be treated to traditional afternoon tea at the renowned Piazza by Anthony (from £5.95).
Mother’s Day weekend also will accommodate the ‘PreLoved Designer Sale’, a one-off two-day event on the Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th, previously held in London and Brighton, which brings a large collection of nearly new designer women’s clothes, bags and shoes, for the first time to the North of England.
* Orders must be made at least a week in advance
