Leeds College of Music celebrates All-Steinway School status
28th Sep 2011
Leeds College of Music is staging a grand unveiling of its multi-million pound refurbishment with a one of a kind performance from an ensemble of 40 pianists.
The college, which has invested over £2m in improving its facilities, will officially become the only English conservatoire to hold All-Steinway School status on Wednesday 28th September as it accepts a delivery of 54 new instruments from Steinway&Sons including a majestic Model D Concert Grand for the highest possible level of musical expression and a Model B Music Room Grand, often referred to as the perfect piano.
To mark this special delivery and unveil the college’s new facilities, Leeds College of Music has invited a select audience to watch an ensemble of 40 students, staff and alumni come together to perform a unique rendition of ‘In C’ by Terry Riley. The composition was written in 1964 to be played by an infinite number of people and has never been performed by such a large number of Steinway and Steinway family pianos.
In the evening, internationally celebrated pianist Jakob Fichert will delight guests, performing on the college’s brand new flagship Steinway Model D grand piano. Please contact the Box office for further information on 0113 222 3434 or book online here
Leeds College of Music’s upgrade to an All Steinway School has been made possible partly thanks to a generous donation from the Liz and Terry Bramall Foundation. The donation has been crucial in enabling Leeds College of Music to undertake the transformational project.
