Hopes high for charity art collection at Leeds Shopping Week
13th Oct 2011
Leeds Shopping Week, which runs from the 13th to the 23rd October, hopes to see the latest collection of photographic prints by Dudley Edwards flying off the walls at Harvey Nichols’ Fourth Floor Restaurant and Bar, where they are currently on sale for a local charity.
The prints, by acclaimed painter, Dudley Edwards, are based on dancers from Northern Ballet and a percentage of each sale goes to Friends of Alfie Martin, a charity working closely with Leeds General Infirmary to provide intensive care facilities and transportation for critically ill babies across the Yorkshire region.
Edwards, who made his name in the 1960s on the swinging London art scene, has worked with famous musicians including The Beatles and Jimi Hendrix. Edwards co-founded the pop-art collective BEV with fellow artist and visionary Douglas Binder. Together Dudley and Doug were innovators of customised cars, street murals, light shows and painted furniture, Paul McCartney’s iconic piano being an early example.
Although primarily a painter, in 1975 Dudley was commissioned by Yves St Laurent to photograph the Harlem Ballet at The Rockefeller Plaza in New York. His latest venture - to photograph The Northern Ballet dancers in rehearsals for Harvey Nichols has been a natural progression from his earlier works. Edwards hopes this latest collaboration will be able to pull in even more fundraising for Friends of Alfie Martin during Shopping Week.
Dudley’s collection is on sale at Harvey Nichols until mid-November. To find out more, please visit harveynichols.com or for more information on the charity please visit thefriendsofalfiemartin.co.uk.
