High Heel-a-thon paints Leeds pink

28th Sep 2011
On Sunday morning Yorkshire’s well-heeled came together to paint the town pink for the 2011 High Heel-a-thon which was held in aid of The Haven and Sue Ryder. Women and intrepid men from across the region donned killer heels for the annual charity high heel walk.

The event comprised a one mile walk around Leeds city centre, followed by an afternoon of entertainment at the Gateway on East Street including a Zumba warm-up, live music from local girl band Finesse, games and prizes and a tea party laid on by the Marvellous Tea Dance Company. Entrants also had the chance to experience some of the therapies available at The Haven.

As well as a whole host of High Heelers, the event also saw a number of celebs joining in on the fun. Local entrepreneur and star of Channel 4’s Secret Millionaire, Terry George, took to the streets to show his support for the event. Hollyoaks’ newest recruit Amy Walsh, sister of Girls Aloud star Kimberley, also stepped into stilettos for the event alongside Emmerdale beauty Grace Cassidy who plays Hannah Barton.

There were a number of prizes up for grabs in categories such as Highest Heels, which was won by local T-Girl Susan Platt, and Most Pampered Pooch which went to Bertie.

The Haven is a breast cancer support centre providing services to help Visitors cope with the physical and emotional side effects of the disease and its treatment. Sue Ryder provides compassionate and expert care to people with long-term and end of life needs.
