Graduates rise to the occasion with new bakery

21st Sep 2011
A duo of Leeds Metropolitan University graduates has launched a unique new café and bakery in Headingley - and landed a contract to cater for events by designer Ted Baker.

The Love Rouge Bakery on Otley Road has been opened this week by its entrepreneurial owners, Becky Fowler, 24, and Lydia Sweeting, 25.  The duo met whilst studying at the University for degrees in Retail Marketing Management and Public Relations and working together at the head office of a retail outlet.

Lydia commented: “We wanted to create a vintage and mis-matched feel to the shop and offer something a bit different to what is currently available in Headingley.  Our studies in business, advertising and public relations at Leeds Met have really helped in us setting up the business especially in getting ideas for the website.  In the future, we’d like to open more shops whilst also catering at weddings and corporate events.”

The bakery offers cupcakes and bespoke cakes which can either be eaten in the café or delivered.  Alongside the bakery, the team currently bakes cakes for weddings and fashion events and has a contract with Ted Baker to cater for parties. For more information visit loverouge.com.
