Family films and activities at National Media Museum
28th Nov 2011
Watch the latest blockbuster Puss in Boots in 3D on Yorkshire’s only giant IMAX screen. Catch brand new releases, Happy Feet Two and Aardman’s Arthur Christmas, along with classic Christmas movies such as The Snowman and Meet Me in St. Louis.
An exciting Christmas period is in store at the National Media Museum, Bradford, where visitors can unwrap a package of festive films and exclusive family activities, including the chance to meet some favourite film characters in person.
Kick start the Christmas holidays with a fun-filled film weekend - on Saturday 17&Sunday 18 December the National Media Museum will be offering action packed family events and activities. Visitors will get the chance to meet some festive film characters around the Museum including Puss in Boots, The Snowman, the conductor from Polar Express, the Muppets and Santa. There will be free face painting and anyone who is dressed up as a Christmas movie character will get a 10% discount for any film!
This discount can be used on any of the latest film releases including the highly anticipated Puss in Boots 3D: An IMAX Experience (from 9 December) featuring Shrek’s friend, the notorious fighter and outlaw; Aardman’s new animated film Arthur Christmas (in 3D and 2D from 2 December), a story set on Christmas night at the North Pole when Santa's youngest son looks to use his father's high-tech operation for an urgent mission; and Happy Feet Two (in 3D and 2D from 16 December) the sequel to massively popular Happy Feet, revisiting Mumble and his son Erik in the emperor penguin world. Also available is Martin Scorsese’s first 3D film Hugo 3D (from 2 December), an enchanting family story set in the walls of a Parisian train station in the 1930’s.
In addition to the latest releases the Museum will also be showing seasonal favourites, The Polar Express 3D (from 19 November), The Muppets Christmas Carol (17 & 18 December) and two of the best loved Christmas films, The Snowman (from 17 December) and Meet Me in St. Louis (from 16 December) - Vincente Minnelli’s enchanting musical starring Judy Garland as Esther Smith, which has been re-released by the BFI.
Alongside this festive film programme there are a range of free family activities in December, from making animated e-cards using inspiration from our festive movies for a Christmas greeting, to celebrating the beautiful animation of The Snowman or Arthur Christmas by designing a festive film bauble. Visitors can also make their own a puppet to take part in a Puppets Christmas Carol movie trailer.
Whatever the weather this Christmas there’s always something for the family at the National Media Museum!
