Business Link Yorkshire, which is funded by Regional Development Agency Yorkshire Forward, is urging people from across our region to come to one of the four free, weekend Enterprise Shows in Leeds, Hull, Sheffield and York, starting at the end of March and going through to early May.

Helen West, chief executive of Business Link, said:  “There are generally two types of people who start businesses.  Those with a great idea who need to test it out before deciding if it could make money.

“And those who have a sense that they want to run their own business – but haven’t come up with a ‘good idea’ yet.

“In both cases, encouragement and support from friends and family can play a crucial part.  Belief in the person or the idea can give them confidence to take a first step.  Once they are at the Enterprise Show, we have all the support to help them find good ideas, research potential markets and put together plans.”

How do you spot a potential entrepreneur?  They look for new and better ways to do things, enjoy challenging themselves, tend to excite other people with their ideas and energy and may question conventional wisdom. Does this sound like you?

The Enterprise Shows 2010 take visitors through the steps of starting and running a business with advice on hand from bankers, accountants, HMRC, business and patent information services and Business Link advisers.  Seminars cover essential business start-up topics such as marketing and Practical Advice from an Entrepreneur and listen to key note speakers including entrepreneur, and Jonathan Yates.

Nearly 3,500 people attended the Enterprise Shows in 2009 and Business Link supported 12 per cent of all new business start-ups in Yorkshire last year.

The Enterprise Shows 2010 will be held at Millennium Square, Leeds on March 27 and 28; City Hall, Hull on April 10 and 11; Meadowhall Coach Park on April 24 and 25; and York Racecourse on May 8 and 9.  Opening times for all Shows are Saturday 10am-5pm and Sunday 10am-4pm.
