City local expands into the suburbs
30th Apr 2012
As fears mount around the local pub becoming a thing of the past, there’s to be a new addition in Leeds next month, as the team behind the city’s best kept secret, Stew & Oyster Calls Landing, open the doors to a new home in Oakwood.
Bringing all the winning ingredients of the city bar to the suburbs, Stew&Oyster Oakwood will open its doors to the public from Friday 4th May in time for bank holiday weekend.
Residing in the well known property that formerly housed the HSBC bank, the bar is currently being brought to life across two floors of the building, set to provide “a new local with a twist’.
Located on Roundhay road, in the heart of Oakwood opposite the clock, the new bar is to offer customers craft beers and ales brewed from across the region alongside a wide selection of world wines. Sitting alongside this is the much loved casual dining menu of Stew & Oyster – simple yet satisfying stews made from fresh local produce, sourced from in and around Yorkshire, along with mouth-watering oysters that complement the great selection of beers.
The bar also offers a retreat for afternoon breaks, serving tea, coffee and cakes, along with antipasti and olives. Good music and the papers also provide a relaxed setting for customers to unwind in.
Stew & Oyster Manager, Gordon Dickinson said: “We’ve had great success with Stew & Oyster Calls Landing, having built a customer base of people who enjoy a laid back atmosphere and the friendliness of a real local, but in the city. We get a lot of people coming out after work to the city centre bar, alongside those who live in town. With Stew & Oyster Oakwood we want to provide the same service for those who live or work in North Leeds.”
He added:“ The property is currently being renovated and we’re looking forward to creating a place where people can really feel at home. The style will follow our trademark look of being understated and contemporary yet homely, but with additional features such as the 2nd floor mezzanine it also has additional character. We look forward to welcoming everyone on 4th May to their new local”.
Committed to supporting local breweries, the team brings customers Natural Blonde, a bespoke beer made for Stew & Oyster by Ossett Brewery and a real local stout in MJ Fortis from Ilkley Brewery. They also always have two guest cask ales available, with the likes of Little Valley Brewery in Hebden Bridge, Burley Street Brewhouse in Leeds and Kirkstall Brewery set to grace their pumps in the coming weeks, as well as a few other surprises, as the team are continuously seeking out exciting micro-breweries from across the region to work with.
Guests on the 4th May will be invited to sample a range of signature stews as well as try out the oysters alongside Yorkshire ales and craft beers.
