Carols with Kate Rusby at Leeds Town Hall
22nd Nov 2011
English folk singer and songwriter Kate Rusby and her hugely talented band, complete with brass quintet, perform festive carols and songs on Friday 9 December at Leeds Town Hall.
Kate Rusby showcases the carols and songs learnt through childhood in her native South Yorkshire and will perform new variations of familiar carols mostly unheard outside the area. Kate is joined on stage by her all new line-up Damien O'Kane (guitar, tenor guitar and banjo), Duncan Lyall (double bass), Edmund Boyd (guitar and bouzouki), Julian Sutton (melodeon) and a brass quintet for this rousing Christmas celebration!
Of all the stars in folk music few shine as brightly as Yorkshire’s Kate Rusby. Known as the voice of contemporary English folk music, Kate’s exquisite interpretations of traditional songs and finely wrought self-penned tunes have won her an audience that reaches beyond the genre - a rare achievement for a folk artist but entirely understandable given Rusby’s expressive vocals that invest whatever she sings with irresistible emotional depth.
This un-missable evening follows the release of Kate’s second album of Yorkshire-inspired songs and carols While Mortals Sleep. The album features new variations of familiar carols including Little Town of Bethlehem, Joy to the World, Rocking Carol and Shepherds Arise.
“Her voice remains a thing of extraordinary beauty” Mojo magazine 2011
“Long recognised as her generation’s most outstanding interpretive singer of traditional material” R2 magazine 2011
Tickets to see Kate Rusby at Christmas at Leeds Town Hall are priced £20 each (Under 16s £15). To book call the Box Office on 0113 224 3801 or book online at www.leedstownhall.co.uk.
