Property industry chief likes what she sees in Leeds

19th Jan 2012
Liz Peace CBE, Chief Executive of the British Property Federation, was impressed by what she saw when she visited Land Securities’ landmark £350million Trinity Leeds development.

She said: “In the current economic climate it is heartening to be able to see the UK’s largest on-going retail and leisure development taking shape under the skilled hands of so many construction workers.

“As well as providing thousands of jobs now and when it opens in spring 2013, a major project of this nature provides hope and sends out a confident message about the important role that the property sector plays in the British economy. I was impressed to learn how Land Securities is working with the local authority and the wider community as an intrinsic part of the project.”

Land Securities, the UK’s biggest property company and a leading member of the federation, is a long-term investor in Leeds and during Mrs Peace’s visit Portfolio Director Gerald Jennings, briefed her about the on-going success of the company’s White Rose Shopping Centre and the work that Land Securities is doing alongside Leeds City Council on the Investment Partnership for South Leeds (IPSL).

He said: “Liz has been working closely with the Government to ensure that localism really delivers in terms of growth and regeneration and, as well as seeing the Trinity scheme first hand, was also interested to hear about the work of the IPSL.

“The wide-ranging community and stakeholder engagement that has been undertaken in south Leeds is looking at ways of attracting further and much-needed private sector investment into this part of the city and the investment strategy document launched by the partnership last year will help to guide future thinking.”
