Harewood opens up world of wonder to children

25th Feb 2010
Harewood is set to announce its newest attraction – an indoor space that’s perfect for children to feed their minds and enter a world of fascination and wonder.  The 3 domes that used to house the planetarium have received a £100,000 plus facelift and, following this major refurbishment, will open on 2nd April as a superb children’s indoor interactive area – all free to Harewood’s visitors.

With laughter and learning cleverly combined to make this unique indoor area a favourite for children and parents alike, this new addition to Harewood will add another string to the bow of this award winning attraction.  Harewood already offers a varied schedule of family activities during the open season, both inside and out, with extensive grounds including trails and walks plus the renowned Bird Garden, all perfect for families.  Add to the mix, the Harewood Adventure Playground and a family-friendly cafe in The Courtyard, Harewood comes up trumps for a value day out whatever the weather.

The new children’s indoor area will reflect all that is available to enjoy at Harewood.  The outdoors plays a big part in any visitor’s day, with fun and fascination a key element in this ingenious indoor venue.  The space will encompass opportunities for children aged 2 and upwards to see, touch and feel elements of their experience at Harewood and encounters they’ve never had before – it’s fascinating and children will be amazed that this other world exists at Harewood.  Science and technology, nature and biology, arts and culture, will all be represented and introduced to children with an ultimate aim for them to love it and learn from it.  There will also be some retail therapy that appeals to children and parents alike with emphasis on educational and informative toys and gifts, perfect for tots to teenagers.  There will be a special film zone where children can watch special screenings of 20 minute films to learn and laugh in equal measure and on one day every two weeks, Space Connections will put on a Planetarium show to feed their minds ... to infinity and beyond!

Harewood opens for the full open season on 2nd April and there’s lots going on inside and out for the holidays.  Go to www.harewood.org for more information, opening times and prices.  For reader offers and incentives for your readers to become Harewood cardholders, call John Swinburn on 0113 218 1021.
