Hats the way to do it with LBA and Ryanair
17th Aug 2011
Talented Leeds students have been given the chance to showcase their passion for fashion at Yorkshire’s top racing event, The Ebor Festival, thanks to Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA) and Ryanair.
Millinery Students from Leeds College of Art were asked to create a signature hat for The Ebor Festival in York.
The brief was to design an eye catching style which reflects the spirit of one of Ryanair’s 22 destinations from Leeds Bradford Airport. Entries included styles inspired by Venice, Pisa, Barcelona, Dusseldorf, Gdansk, Fuerteventura, Nantes, Malta, Limoges and Dublin.
The three students who made it through to the first round (pictured) have now been given the funding to make their masterpieces, from which a winner will be chosen at Ebor.
The students now have only one week to perfect their creations before the start of the Festival on the 17th August, 2011.
Tony Hallwood of LBA said: “We are delighted to support such talented students in our region and showcase their fantastic work at one Yorkshire’s top racing events. I am looking forward to seeing the finished hats and it will be fascinated to see if race-goers can guess which Ryanair route the hat has been inspired by.”
Maria Macken of Ryanair said; “The Ebor Festival is one of the highlights of the fashion calendar in the region, with designers competing to create the most eye-catching Ryanair destination inspired outfit and we are confident that these designs will certainly create a buzz on the day.”
Sue Carter, tutor at Leeds College of Art, explained, “We are really excited to be given this opportunity to join forces with both Leeds Bradford Airport&Ryanair. The competition gives our students the chance to work on a real client brief which they can add to their portfolio. It’s great experience for them.”
