Yorkshire gym chain flexes its muscles in Leeds
19th Dec 2011
Affordable Yorkshire gym operator Xercise4less is to kick off 2012 fighting fit with the launch of the largest fitness club in Leeds, taking over a prime 40,000 sq ft site on Kirkstall Road. The team are looking to create up to 80 new jobs, and are moving their head office to their new premises, relocating from Wakefield.
Xercise4less Managing Director and ex Leeds rugby player, Jon Wright, has generated huge success with his flexible, value for money gym memberships since launching Xercise4less in 2009 as people have quickly realised it's not necessary to spend £40-£50 a month to keep fit but instead can get a monthly membership for the price of a week’s Starbuck’s morning coffees*.
The fourth of the gym chain to open in the UK after success in Wakefield, Castleford and Stockton-On-Tees, the Kirkstall Industrial Estate site will boast the biggest fitness studio in Leeds and the UK, which can hold up to 400 people and will host over 40 free classes a week, free for members. With over 300 pieces of state of the art equipment, the gym is to be 'zoned' for different activities such as cardio, weights, a combat zone, women's only area and there are additional areas for personal training sessions and spin classes.
Whilst a budget gym, there is nothing budget about the facilities and technology will play a key role in the high level of service provided, with class instructors being hooked up to cameras and projected onto big screens, to ensure all participants have a clear view from anywhere in the studio, which has a capacity to hold 400 people.
To capitalise on business growth Jon has also appointed a new Group Operations Manager and Marketing Graduate to work in the head office team in Leeds, who will assist with continuing to grow the £4million turnover company, with ambitious expansion plans for 2012 and the acquisition of more sites nationwide. The chain currently has 19,000 members across its existing sites.
Jon said: “We've been lucky enough to achieve great success with the first 3 gyms, and due to increasing customer demand the acquisition of the Leeds site will allow us to provide our flexible, affordable gym memberships to a wider demographic of Yorkshire.
“To cope with this demand we've added a number of new appointments to the team which will continue to grow throughout 2012 and moving the head office to the Kirkstall Road site will ensure there's room for this.”
The Leeds gym is offering a pre-opening joining price of just £9.99 for a limited number of early sign ups, which will increase to £14.99 per month once the site is officially opened in February. For more information on membership prices and Xercise4less sites visit www.xercise4less.co.uk.
Jon added: “With Xercise4less we've set out to create 'the people's gym' at each site, realising members use the facilities for lots of different reasons. For us, it's all about offering flexibility, so as well as the low subscription rate, we will work with members on a monthly basis rather than insisting on lengthy 12 month contracts and we allow everyone to freeze fees in the instance of injury or holiday.
“I'm delighted that our previous sites have launched so well and we will roll out the same model for our Leeds site, which is based on charging as little as possible, not as much as we can get away with.
“We are truly revolutionising the industry. In these times of austerity, we feel we are providing an excellent facility with unbeatable customer service, all at a very affordable price.”
The Leeds gym will hold a launch event in February to welcome people of all ages and fitness levels to learn about the benefits of joining Xercise4less. Details will be updated via faceboook.com/xercise4less.
