Toasting the verdict of pub relaunch
18th Apr 2011
Historic Leeds pub Town Hall Tavern will re-launch next month, with two business lunches and a VIP court themed opening night, that will welcome guests to witness firsthand the venue's transformation into an eclectic gastro pub, and deliver their verdict.
Town Hall Tavern, owned by Yorkshire brewery Timothy Taylor, dates back to 1926 and traditionally was a venue used by solicitors who would sit on one side of the pub preparing for their cases, with the accused making the most of what could have been their last moments of freedom, drinking on the other side.
This history and the venue's location opposite the courts and town hall, will set the theme for the launch events across May 18th and 19th, where guests will judge for themselves and deliver their verdict on the new décor, high quality food, traditional ales and fresh cocktails. It will be open to all from May 20th.
From 12pm – 2pm on 18th and 19th May 100 business people from the nearby Park Square area will attend a VIP lunch to witness first hand the venue's transformation and enjoy drinks and plates from the new menu, before giving their verdict and posting any comments into a ballot box.
From 6.30pm - 11pm on Thursday 19th May, over 100 VIP guests will enjoy Timothy Taylor ales, fine wines and cocktails and will enjoy tasters of the new menu to compliment their drink of choice.
Guests will also be able to vote for their favourite dish, be entered into a 'mug-shot' wall of fame and write about their 'guilty pleasure' of the evening in a leather-bound guest book.
Town Hall Tavern is undergoing a complete re-furb into a eclectic, homely venue, with dark wooden panels contrasting with bold accessories, whilst ensuring the traditional heritage and charm is retained.
The gastro menu cooked by new chef Anton Scoones, formerly of the 5* Du Vere Oulton Hall Hotel and The General Tarleton in North Yorkshire, will serve a range of fresh meat, fish and vegetarian dishes, including a 'pushed for time' section with quick bites for diners in a hurry, 'Ale House Classics', signature dishes and indulgent desserts.
New Venue Managers Mat Atkinson and Renee Hughes will serve fine wines, contemporary cocktails and the traditional cask ales Timothy Taylor is associated with.
Timothy Taylor Operations Manager, Marc Craddock, said: “Town Hall Tavern has a unique history and charm that we have worked hard to retain throughout the re-launch plans. We want to ensure the new elements are inline with high expectations of what both our business guests and VIPs want and need.
“Their feedback is important to both Timothy Taylor and the new Town Hall Tavern staff, and we hope that by asking them to give their opinions and have a bit of fun along the way, guests will join us in celebrating the re-launch and support the historic venue throughout the future.
“Whether it's a lunch-time business meeting with fresh, tasty food, or after work cocktails, Town Hall Tavern will be THE place for all occasions. We're really excited to welcome prominent Leeds business figures to sample the new food and drinks menus and then open it up to the public on 20th May.”
