Last weekend Leeds Hotels&Venues Association (LHVA) and Marketing Leeds gave a big Yorkshire welcome to their ‘Leeds in Barcelona’ competition winner as she arrived into Leeds Bradford Airport.   

Cintia Gomez, a delegate from Barcelona won return flights with Jet2 and a two-night stay at The Queens in Leeds city centre. The prize was won whilst a Leeds delegation of over 100 visited Barcelona to participate in Leeds in Barcelona, a series of networking events involving 500 business leaders from across the Catalonia capital. As part of wider programme of activity to promote Leeds to European cities, a ‘Live from Leeds’ performance showcased the city’s home-grown talent and included Opera North, Northern Ballet and Phoenix Dance.  

The winner used her weekend break to explore the city of Leeds and the local venues and attractions including The Royal Armouries, the Victoria Quarter, Leeds Kirkgate Market and the Corn Exchange. Cintia headed off to Harewood House on Saturday where she will be spent the afternoon relaxing in the grounds and exploring the House. During her stay, she dined at The Mint Hotel’s restaurant and Chino Latino at Park Plaza and also enjoyed lunch at Casa Mia Millennium. 

Deborah Hindley, Director of Leeds Hotels & Venues Association said: “Events such as ‘Leeds in Barcelona’ are a fantastic way for our venues and hotels to get together and promote what valuable assets Leeds has on offer for both the business and leisure markets. It is a great incentive for cities to work together in helping to promote overseas locations and for Leeds to attract conferences and delegates to do business in our city.”

The tourism sector turned out in force to support the Leeds in Barcelona programme, organised by Marketing Leeds, to promote Leeds as a premier destination for business and leisure tourism. The tourism delegation included representatives from LHVA, Royal Armouries International, The Queens, The Met, Ramada Jarvis Leeds parkway, Chevin County Hotel & Spa, Well Met Conferencing and Welcome to Yorkshire.  

Over the years, Leeds has developed a well-honed schedule of purpose-designed inspection programmes for both UK and overseas buyer groups.
