Launch of new network does the business for Universities Week
20th Jun 2011
Leeds Trinity University College has launched a new networking forum for local businesses, at a special event timed to coincide with Universities Week.
Universities Week highlights the impact of higher education on people, business and communities nationwide. “Big Ideas for Business” is one of the themes for the week, offering the ideal opportunity for Leeds Trinity to demonstrate how the campus community and business community can work together.
In the first of a series of regular networking events, Leeds Trinity welcomed local business colleagues to its campus in Horsforth, to share ideas and find out how the university college can support their business needs in the future.
Representatives of enterprises in north west Leeds ranging from finance to fundraising, and lettings to law, welcomed the opportunity to meet with fellow business people.
Anne Waterhouse, of Beautyteknorth, said, “As a sole business owner, it can be difficult to find local support and make contacts, so I jumped at the chance to come to a networking event on my own doorstep. I feel it is so important to be part of the community, personally and from a business point of view.”
Lucy Goetz, of social media consultancy Reach Further, said, “As a Leeds Trinity graduate (BA Journalism, 2009) I was aware of Leeds Trinity’s partnership work with local employers – I even got my job through an internship thanks to the careers service here. With much of our work being online, the face to face contact becomes even more important so this new business network is a very welcome development.”
Professor Freda Bridge opened the event and welcomed Councillor Brian Cleasby as guest speaker. She said, “As a community based institution we are proud of our association with Horsforth and our strong links with local businesses, and I urge you to think of us as a resource for you.”
Future network meetings will include guest speakers and training sessions, with the next event planned for October.
