Law firm Irwin Mitchell has been ranked as the top team in Yorkshire for family law services, according to a prestigious independent report.
 
The family law department moved up from second to first place in the latest Chambers UK 2012 legal report. The Irwin Mitchell team was described as an ‘impressive practice’ offering a ‘comprehensive family service’ and ‘spot-on advice’ from two offices in Yorkshire.
 
Two Yorkshire lawyers were specifically named and praised for their work with clients: Martin Loxley, who heads the national family team from the Sheffield office and Peter Morris, based in Leeds.
 
Martin Loxley, National Head of Family Law at Irwin Mitchell, said: “It’s fantastic to be recognised for the hard work we do in our department. Family law is such as personal service and we act with the utmost respect and sensitivity towards our clients.
 
“What is particularly satisfying is that the Chambers rankings include an element of client interviews so it is reflective of how our clients view us.

The family law team carries out a range of services in areas such as financial provision, cohabitation disputes and disputes relating to children. This is on the back of an increase in the number of clients for which the team has acted .Those clients have ever more complex personal and financial problems due to the pressures of the economic climate.
 
Martin, who retained his place at the top of the ranks, received glowing endorsements in the report including one which said: “If there’s anyone better in Sheffield I’ve yet to meet them.”
 
Peter, who is based in Leeds, was ranked in the top three this year due to strong client endorsement. Comments in the report included: “He is amicable and looks at all avenues,” and “He stands out as unique and will go the extra mile.”
 
The 2012 Chambers UK report ranks solicitors and barristers across 60 specialist UK legal fields. Irwin Mitchell’s rankings come on the back of a successful 12 months for the firm, which also won the Rehabilitation Initiative of the Year – Claimant Solicitor title for the fourth year running at the Rehabilitation First Awards, and was named Law Firm of the Year 2011 at the Insider Yorkshire Property Industry Awards.
