Leeds City College has been named Best UK Hospitality College 2012 by the Craft Guild of Chefs.

The College’s Faculty of Hospitality & Catering, which includes butchery and bakery, was awarded the Chairman’s prestigious award at the guild’s annual awards ceremony, held in London.

The award considers the quality and breadth of provision, as well as innovation and enterprise.

Chairman Andrew Green visits colleges across the country, with the award based on the recommendation of the Craft Guild’s industry members alongside his own personal observations. 

College Head of Faculty Gordon Sibbald, who attended the ceremony said: “The College has previously been awarded a Certificate of Services to the Craft Guild - however this is the major award presented at the annual awards ceremony. As a college we are delighted and very proud to receive this award.”

The College also recently gained industry recognition for its new city centre restaurant - The Food Academy at Flannels - which has scooped an award in its first six months.

The Food Academy – the result of an exciting enterprise between Leeds City College and one of the country’s largest independent luxury retail groups Flannels – was awarded the Innovative Industry Partnership Award at the PACE (the professional association for catering education) Awards for Innovation 2012, held in March.

The Food Academy at Flannels, which provides an opportunity for the College’s most talented students to secure an apprenticeship at the restaurant on completion of their training, has become a popular dining destination since its opening in November last year.
