The skyline of Leeds is constantly developing and evolving. £3.2 billion has been invested in commercial property development in
Leeds over the last 10 years and a further £7.2 billion of projects are
under construction or in the pipeline.
A number of major developments are currently under construction around Leeds, including Trinity Leeds, Leeds Arena, Leeds Bradford International Airport and the East Leeds Link Road.
There are also two major regeneration areas in the city, Holbeck Urban Village and Aire Valley Leeds. These priority areas are the main focus for new investment and employment in the region.
Development within the city is guided by local government through the Renaissance Leeds project, which provides a strategic framework for place-making and urban design. Leeds has a civic architect, John Thorp MBE, who provides an overview for city development. He has identified a series of eight guiding principles which characterise Leeds, and enable authentic and sustainable developments which relate to the existing cityscape.
