Overview
A wonderfully colourful and musical carnival taking place over the August bank holiday.
Events include:
Prince & Princess Show
- admission £1.00 under 16yrs, £2.00 over 16yrs at the Leeds West Indian Centre from 3pm - 6pm. A family show with an electric atmosphere - the young people seeking to win the title of Prince or Princess 2008.
Carnival Queen Show
- Friday 22 August - 6.30pm Millennium Square. Ticket only event, Over 16s only. Elaborate and beautifully designed costumes.
Calypso Monarch Show
- Saturday 23 August - £3 before 10pm - The Calypsonians try out their unique lyrics and songs of politics, satire and wordplay, seeking to win the prize of Calypsonian 2008.
J'ouvert Morning
- Monday 25 August, a free event for all. Come in your pyjamas, nightgown or fancy dress. It's a early morning wake-up call starting at 6am and leaving from the Leeds West Indian Centre.
Leeds Carnival Day
- Monday 25 August, Potternewton Park. The climax to all of the events. See the Queen, Kings, Prince & Princess and troupes on the main stage. With plenty of arts and craft stalls and Caribbean cuisine to wet your appetite.
The procession leaves the park at 2pm prompt, but come earlier to see all the costumes and troupes congregate in the arena.
Last Lap Dance
- featuring Small Axe, one of the Caribbean's top bands. Held at the Leeds West Indian Centre from 10pm til late. Admission is £5.00 for a ticket and £7.00 on the door. A show not to be missed.
