Leeds pupils happy to hop onto their walking bus
Youngsters have been banging the drum about the benefits of walking to school.
Pupils from Adel Primary in Leeds, joined by their parents and teachers, took part in a mass walk to school, known as a walking bus.
And to brighten up their journey, they were encouraged to play musical instruments along the way.
The event was organised by parent Antonia Roberts, helped by Leeds City Council road safety officers and mascot Spike the hedgehog.
Walking buses involve groups of children, wearing high- visibility clothing, walking to or from school along a set route while supervised by at least two trained adults.
One adult – the "driver" – leads the group and the "conductor" walks behind.
"We have promoted walking buses for a number of years, and several are operating successfully at schools in the city," said, Coun Stuart Andrew, deputy executive member for transport.
