Leeds film festival bosses seeking volunteers
Movie lovers are being given the chance to take on a crucial cameo role at this year's Leeds International Film Festival.
Organisers are looking to recruit a small army of volunteers to help ensure the smooth running of the annual big screen spectacular.
Members of the team will handle a wide variety of jobs, from checking tickets at cinema doors to fielding phone inquiries.
They will also get free admission to screenings during the city council-backed celluloid extravaganza, which runs from November 4 to 16.
Event director Chris Fell said: "Volunteers are absolutely key to what the film festival does. Anyone who may be interested should get in touch – it's a fantastic opportunity with lots of benefits."
The festival is being held this year for the 22nd time.
It will feature more than 200 screenings, workshops and other events.
Venues around the city include the Carriageworks theatre in the city centre, the Hyde Park Picture House and the Seven arts centre in Chapel Allerton.
Although full details of the movies being shown are being kept under wraps at this stage, some elements of the programme have been confirmed. They include:
# A show at Leeds Town Hall on November 7 by former Ultravox member John Foxx;
# A horror movie all-nighter on November 15 at Hyde Park Picture House;
# The return of the festival's 'Thought Bubble' strand – a celebration of the world of comic books and graphic novels.
Coun John Procter, Leeds City Council's executive member for leisure, today predicted that the event would showcase "the very best of contemporary, cutting edge cinema from all over the world".
He added: "This is an unmissable opportunity for film fans everywhere."
The Yorkshire Evening Post is the festival's official media partner.
