Leeds on an art Journey
Some of the brightest artistic talent in Leeds is inviting the public on a three-day 'Journey'.
East Street Arts, a group which supports the work of emerging and established artists, is to throw open the doors of its two studios, named Patrick (St Mary's Lane, Burmantofts) and Beaver (Whitehouse Street, Hunslet).
Over the three days the group wants to bring people in to get them involved with artists' work, joining in with the launch of new projects and the end of old ones.
The bulk of Journey will be held at Patrick Studios, with a shuttle bus visit to Beaver Studios between 11am and 2pm on Saturday.
Starting tomorrow, Rebekka Kill will host the Socialist Jukebox at Patrick Studios. She wants people to come along and record their memories and stories, along with any music that is linked to them.
She said: "I am interested in the way music and sound activates memory and narrative.
"In return you will receive a souvenir copy of the record sleeve stamped with the Socialist Jukebox stamp. Bring your socialist sounds along and re-write history."
On Friday, Journey will host The Digital Lounge at Patrick Studios, an event showing films and digital work by artists, amateur film-makers and computer progammers and also featuring footage taken from archives.
Also at Patrick Studios will be an event which explores the connections between various cities, looking closely at artists' responses to Leeds and Berlin.
Artists taking part will include Katy Devine, Sarah Warden and the DoGoSee Project, aka Ben Halsall and Megan Smith.
East Street Arts spokeswoman Sarah Barrett said: "The Journey concept originates from ideas the artists and the organisation itself contend with regularly: intervention, navigation, boundaries, journeys and mapping.
"Visitors will have the opportunity to check-in to ESA membership to be more involved. "The first 30 new members receive a free work of art and all members who join during Journey receive a discount on membership."
