Leeds College of Music Community Choral Society performs two works specially devised for specific occasions; in Purcell’s case his Ode was produced for Queen Mary’s birthday in 1694, while the very rarely heard Gerald Finzi’s For St Cecilia was composed in the 1947 St Cecilia celebrations held in London in November.

David Houlder conducts and Dr. Simon Lindley plays the new Makin organ in The Venue.

This year the saint’s day actually falls on Saturday 22 November, so this concert will be a real birthday celebration of the popular saint.
