Overview
Formed in 1984 by well known drummer and percussionist Dave Hassell, Apitos has become one of the leading Latin jazz ensembles in the UK. Under his leadership this exciting ensemble stands out as a group that merges the rhythms and approaches from the many sources of Latin America, with jazz and improvised forms. Material is drawn from their vast library and also includes music from the band’s current project Made in Manchester. The project celebrates the music of John Mayall, Joy Division, The Smiths, Stone Roses, Oasis and many others, arranged and performed in Apitos’ own inimitable style.
An 11-piece band, Apitos features leading players from the North West of England and beyond, including Dave Hassell on drums and percussion; Laura Beth, vocals; Nick Smart, trumpet; Andy Scott, saxes; Kathy Dyson, guitar; Frank Grime, bass and Simon Topping and Chris Mans on percussion.
