Overview
Bretts, an ivy-clad terrace in a picturesque garden setting, is a traditional, cosy, English tea parlour. They use dripping to fry the fish, and take a lot of pride not only in the food but the service too, putting the fish and chips on the table within minutes of cooking.
It's very quaint inside and out, with original oak panelling still in place from when it opened as a restaurant in 1931 (the adjoining take away dates back to 1919).
Although at the top of the price range, Bretts justifies it's price tag with the sheer quality of food. And it's a licensed restaurant, so you can try a nice Sauvignon Blanc to complement the subtle taste of fish.
It's busy at Bretts all year round, but your patience will be rewarded with some great food.
