Overview

For over thirty years, Leeds Youth Opera has brought the pleasures and challenges of staging and performing opera to young people between the ages of 12 and 25. LYO has grown into a vital and widely admired institution, forming a valuable platform for the nurture and training of young talent in the north, and is the only such organisation in the country. Far from being content with standard repertoire, they delve into adventurous and demanding works, from Donizetti to Philip Glass. This is a chance for Leeds audiences to see high-standard opera productions, some of which are British Premieres. They feature all of their talented and skilled performers in each production, giving them a wide experience of opera and stage skills, whilst the musicians making up the orchestra are drawn from the City of Leeds Youth Orchestra.
