Overview

As the only specialist music college to offer both Higher and Further Education courses, Leeds College of Music provides a unique opportunity for students to progress from BTEC courses through to Undergraduate and Postgraduate degrees. Currently over 1000 full-time and 1500 part-time students study at the College. The University of Leeds and the Open University validate the College’s degrees.

The College plays host to a diverse programme of events throughout the year and the annual concert season includes a wide variety of styles encompassing jazz, classical, contemporary, folk, popular and world music, ranging in scale from orchestras, choirs and big bands to small ensembles and solo recitals/concerts. Performers at The Venue have included Michael Nyman, Jamie Cullum, Courtney Pine, Dennis Rollins, Tim Garland, Polar Bear, Claire Martin, Stacey Kent, Tango Siempre, Soweto Kinch, Tord Gustavsen Trio, Joanna McGregor, Amy Winehouse, London Sinfonietta and Claire Teal.
v The Venue, Leeds College of Music’s state-of-the-art performance space, opened in 2003. The Venue is situated in a multi-million pound development, above the new regional headquarters for the BBC. The College is situated on Quarry Hill, Leeds’ arts and cultural quarter. Neighbours include the West Yorkshire Playhouse, Yorkshire Dance and The Wardrobe.
