Overview

A magnificent Tudor-Jacobean mansion - one of the most celebrated historic houses in England. Temple Newsam boasts over 30 interiors from the 16th to the 20th centuries, with outstanding, sumptuous collections of furniture, ceramics, pottery, old master paintings and silverware. Truly a house full of treasures. Set in 900 acres of beautiful parkland laid out by Capability Brown, you can also wander the grounds at your leisure, enjoy a picnic and visit the home farm.

Amongst other treats, the cafe serves rare breed burgers and sausages, produced from the estate's own herd of Shetland cattle.

'Hidden Temple Newsam' tours, on Tuesdays at 11.00am and 2.00pm and Saturdays at 11.00am, are very popular and require advance booking. Explore the cellars, the underground passage linking the North and South wings and the servants' passages.

Booking is also advised for 'Special Interest' tours every Wednesday at 2.00pm. Discover more about the fabulous collections through a varied programme of themed tours.

Temple Newsam Estate won a Green Flag Award 2005/6 for creating cleaner, safer, green communities.
