Northern School of Contemporary Dance
The Northern School of Contemporary Dance
(NSCD) was founded by Leeds City Council in 1985 to provide vocational dance training for the talented young people coming out of Chapeltown and Harehills at the time. Since its foundation, the College has grown into one of the UK’s leading dance training institutions. It is now a higher education college affiliated with the University of Leeds, offering full-time dance training for almost 200 students from all over the UK and beyond.
The NSCD became the first institution in the UK to offer a Bachelor of Performing Arts (Dance) degree (BPA) in 1993, and transferred to the higher education sector in October 1994. The BPA degree is validated by the University of Leeds.
The NSCD has state-of-the-art facilities and is affiliated to the Conservatoire for Dance and Drama, the national leader in professional performing arts education. As well as 10 studio spaces, the college has a library, a lecture room, audiovisual equipment and a large collection of videotapes and music recordings.
