Leeds College of Art and Design
Leeds College of Art and Design
is one of the few nationally funded independent colleges in the country specialising in the provision of art, craft and design courses. They provide a creative environment, supported by experienced, committed staff and dedicated learning resources, and offer BA (Hons) degrees validated by the University of Leeds. The College is still split between two sites, one in the city centre and one at Blenheim Walk, opposite Leeds University.
Leeds College of Art & Design has played a central role in providing specialist education and training in art, design and crafts for more than 150 years. The College has a long and distinguished history, which can be traced through 150 years of art and design education in Leeds. The first School of Art and Design was founded in 1846.
A great many past students of the College have achieved national and international recognition for their work in design, teaching, painting and sculpture. Some have reached fame, and others have achieved success quietly and anonymously. Henry Moore, Kenneth Armitage, Barbara Hepworth, Vivian Pitchforth and Ralph Brown are all College alumni.
Leeds College of Art and Design is a member of UKADIA, The United Kingdom Arts and Design Institutions Association. It is made up of twenty specialist art and design colleges offering higher education courses.
