Leeds cancer survivor raises over £3,000 on ride

A cancer survivor has raised more than £3,000 by doing a 200-mile bike ride.

Robert George, of Yeadon, Leeds, was diagnosed with testicular cancer last October.

The 29-year-old had been sent for a precautionary scan by his GP, but after that the cancer was detected and he had to stay in hospital for immediate treatment.

He had an operation to remove the affected testicle and since then has made a good recovery.

But Mr George, a landscape gardener, wanted to do his bit for cancer research and decided to cycle from Leeds to North Wales with his best friend Simon Wood in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care.

The pair completed the gruelling ride and have beaten their £3,000 target by collecting £3,200.

"We are more than happy," Mr George said.

"I am chuffed to bits and my best friend is over the moon."

Louise Horsfall, community fundraiser for Marie Curie Cancer Care in West Yorkshire, said: "Rob and Simon have worked so hard so it was great to see them complete their challenge and we are delighted that they have surpassed their target of £3,000.

"The money raised will enable us to provide over 150 hours of nursing care to people."
