Overview

Lotherton Hall retains all the character of an Edwardian country home, rich in collections of paintings, furniture, sculpture, silver, china, costume and oriental art.

This charming gentleman's residence was the last Yorkshire home of the Gascoigne family, who were local land and coal owners. The Hall was extended at the end of the 19th century and further enlarged in 1903. The result is a delightful cameo of an Edwardian country house in the days before the First World War.

The Gascoignes were passionate travellers and collectors and their great sense of style is reflected in the family paintings, furnishings and works of art on display. Since the house became a country house museum these collections have grown enormously and now include magnificent 19th and 20th century decorative art, as well as the costume and Oriental art. There is a changing programme of exhibitions of costume, arts and crafts. Explore at your leisure and discover the wealth of treasures in every room along the way.

Lotherton Hall has won a Green Flag Award 2005/6 for creating cleaner, safer, green communities.
