There are approximately 24,500 business premises in the Leeds area and Leeds City Council has the responsibility for collecting business rates in respect of these properties. The total billed for 2005/06 was over £260 million.

Business rates are also often referred to as Non-Domestic Rates or Uniform Business Rates. They are all the same.
